JD 4640 Restore - Part 1

I ended buying a bunch of equipment with the dairy farm we bought last May. One of those pieces was this John Deere 4640. It looked pretty rough but runs good and starts right up on one battery! My dad had a 4640 in the past, so it’s cool to have one of these sound guards back on the farm. His was a quad range and this one is a powershift.

Its been fun testing my mechanical skills, troubleshooting wiring issues and just bringing a legendary tractor back to life. Only thing left to do is paint!

As it sat when we bought the place.

Found all the side shields in the carport!

Needs a full gut job on the interior.

Large bird nest up in the headliner.

Expensive rubber on the back of this tractor - Firestone 20.8’s!

Got it moved over to HQ - ready to tear into it!

Fixing some leaks - replaced PTO seal and installed WAPSI ISO couplers (new style).

Ripping all the upholstery out, along with radio and speakers. Took glass out to get tinted and replaced all window seals.

New cab fan from AP Air - will blow your glasses off!

Headliner and new bezel installed.

Corner post upholstery going in.

New seat and lower upholstery going in.

Replaced steering motor hoses under the dash and cleaned up alot oil and dirt. Lots of wire splicing to get all these relays going.

Re-did this whole harness due to shorts in the connections.

Old flasher module coming out.

All electrical issues fixed! Power to all flasher and lights - time to instal LEDs.

Larson LED lights going in.

New radio in!

Finished interior.

Ready for a paint job!
